Breeders of Registered St. Croix Sheep
We have puppies! Born early December 2019
We are a retired couple living in northeast Alabama on our Hobby farm. We have been raising St. Croix Sheep for over thirteen years and find them to be easy to keep and a joy to own. We had some coyote problems soon after starting and chose Anatolian Shepherds to protect our sheep. They are beautiful dogs who take their job very seriously. We sell registered St Croix lambs when we have them available. Usually this is once a year. We also sometimes sell older lambs. We are members of the St. Croix Hair Sheep Breeders Inc. and participate in the National Scrapie Eradication Program. The St. Croix breed has never been known to have a case of scrapie, since being introduced to this country. The breed is number one in parasite resistance, seldom if ever needing worming and do well on even marginal pasture. They do not need to be sheared but shed their coat each spring which makes them much easier to keep than wool sheep.
They are friendly and easy to manage. The rams are docile and we have never had one to be aggressive at all. The ewes nearly always have twins and sometimes triplets and have plenty of milk for the lambs.
We have the ewes lamb on pasture and the lambs always seem to be born in the worst of weather. Despite this they are up and playing within an hour and you can't catch them within about 6 hours. We have never had a ewe that needed any help lambing.
Sometimes if unsupervised the older ewes will try to steal lambs born the same day to more inexperienced moms.
We have lambs for sale at least yearly so contact us to reserve one or more they go fast!
Lambs are available now August until all are sold,.
